DE STOKERIJ

Project ‘De Stokerij’ was our studio project in my 1st semester of my 2nd Bachelor Interior Design. We had to design a student restaurant in a very unique property. The location is an old distillery where fuel oil was used to generate heating for classrooms. The building has an industrial character, feels very open and is extremely high. I wanted to pull this atmosphere and spaciousness further in my concept. In my opinion, when you design a student restaurant, dynamics and flexibility are very important. Scaffoldings have an industrial and rough character and fulfil these requirements.  They are incredibly flexible, you break them off and build them up in any setup you want. There are infinitely many possibilities with this construction. You associate scaffolding with the roughness, hardness and dirty by the wharf. To eliminate this negative given, I painted them gold. The scaffold gets another dimension and became the eyecatcher in my design. I changed an industrial given into something shiny and beautiful. It’s literally the diamond in my design. To keep the space completely open, I decided to work with different open levels. As a result, you experience even more the architectural strengths of the building.
